Kawesqar Vodka: A 100% Patagonian Artisanal Gem in Chile
Share
In the Coyhaique region, Bulgarian Yuliyan Popov created Kawesqar vodka, made with Patagonian potatoes. It is a 100% artisanal product that uses raw materials from the area. Popov lived in Santiago for many years, but decided to settle in Patagonia to revive his knowledge of distilled spirits. Kawesqar vodka is 100% Patagonian, made with Patagonian potatoes and spring water from the area. It sets it apart from other productions that use purified water. The spring water gives it a touch of sweetness and a unique flavor.
The Bulgarian who created Kawesqar vodka
The man responsible for creating Kawesqar vodka in Patagonia is Yuliyan Popov. The producer was born in Bulgaria, but moved to Chile 25 years ago. He used to live in Santiago , working as a telecommunications engineer. However, in 2019, he and his family decided to change their lifestyle and moved to Coyhaique. Popov remembered his knowledge of spirits and decided to use it to create his own vodka.
100% Patagonian Vodka
Kawesqar is a unique vodka because it's 100% Patagonian. Popov uses Patagonian potatoes and local spring water to produce it. The goal is to highlight Patagonia in the vodka, supporting local producers and helping the local economy. The pure spring water gives the vodka a touch of sweetness and a unique flavor, and is the main ingredient that differentiates this vodka from others.
Ingredients that make the difference
Spring water makes up 60% of the Kawesqar bottle, which sets it apart from other vodkas that use purified water. Most vodkas are produced near cities and lack access to water with the necessary characteristics. However, for Kawesqar, they use snowmelt water from the Cerro Castillo area, which flows through underground channels and springs up in Vista Hermosa. This water, along with the 95% pure alcohol, gives the vodka its distinctive flavor, with a touch of sweetness and minimal, non-invasive minerals and metals.
